Overview of my roles

When working on Transmedia 2021 , I was within two different teams, The merchandise and the Website development team. I worked with the merchandise team to create a collaboration between the event and the independent fashion brand “Stitch.Ldn” and my role within the website team was to create the front end of the student’s page. I was tasked with creating the designs for the t shirt merchandise, as well as organizing the selling of them, and the business side of things i.e., talking to the university. I have always enjoyed creating designs for clothing, especially within T-shirt design, this aspect of the project played into my hobby skills. Within the development team, I was tasked with creating the front end of the student’s page, in which I felt was a fairly straight forward task.

Website

I found the process of developing the website very straight forward and enjoyable,I was tasked with creating the front end of the students page of the website, in which I made use of Bootstrap 4 and jQuery to build the structure for the webiste. We got the opportunity to work with third years, who managed to give me and my peers some advice for coding advice which helped with my Group Client project. I am really happy with the way the website has come out, as it is responsive and fulfils its job of showing off the students really well.

The Merchandise

The road with the Merchandise has been a much different story, we have been trying to get permission from the university for the collaboration for ages, until I sent a rather “demanding” email, with the advice of my lecturer Marina, it got a response. I am extremely happy with how my designs for the t shirts came out, as well as the 10 second, as I have always had a great passion for creating small movies for advertisements. In terms of my teams, I worked with, I feel both teams put an extremely good standard of work, great communication as well as teaching others new skills, I would 100% work with each team again given the chance.

To create the advert, I printed off a few sample Tshirts with the designs on and I went around the University and Winchester to take pictures in iconic locations around the city. Once completed I made use of some creative commons music, in which I could freely use with out worry of copyright infringement.
I then made use of adobe premiere to cut up all the clips and photos and then to combine them all together to make the avdert seen above.

My other job within the merchandise side, was to help organise and liase with the university to get permission. We approachewd the student union and spoke about what was needed. However just like all public sector services, the university were dreadful at reply and made the whole experience a misery. We were having convosations throughout March before communcation from their end went silent. I waited a few weeks and with the help of my lecturer I sent a "demanding" email to hurry things up, which got a quick reply and I then handed communication over to my peer who is still liasing with them as I write this.

I feel like both of these projects improved my soft skills more than my software and technical skills, especially when it comes to the Merchandise and business of it, as well as this, the design process behind creating the designs for the T-shirts, coinciding with creating the video advert which enabled my skills within Adobe Photoshop to flourish, as well as my skills within Adobe Premiere Rush and Pro. In terms of skills within business, I would say I have learnt a great deal about how business collaborations work, as well as about how to conduct a professional business plan, as well as how to book keep in order to stay safe within the eyes of HMRC . My skills within coding have been brushed up on, however am I am happier with my skills in React.js increasing, as I managed to get advice from the third years. Furthermore, my networking skills improved as liaising with third years and lecturers occurred to get projects up and running. In terms of video editing and working with custom t shirts, I would very much like to continue these activities via a hobby or even through a hobby business.

T Shirt Designs

The plan for the T-Shirt designs was that I would create two designs to summarise the Design and Development pathways within the course. I then looked into stitch londons previous designs and styles.
After doing some research into Stitch.Ldns designs, i went around Winchester and photographed, what I believed to be the most iconic landmarks of the city; King Alfreds Statue and the Cathedral-shock.
I then hopped onto Adobe photoshop and I played around with the images before settling on the final designs. For the design pathway I made use of the pastel filter, making the aspects look as if they were taken from Photoshop and Illustrator- the primary tools of any designer.

For the Development Design I Made use fo the glitch effect, as developers spend their entire working existance on computers. I used some PHP in the background of the image to show off what sorts of code we work with!
